Branded make-up products dominate German market with over 80% share in 2011: Report

Branded make-up products had more than 80% share in the German market when compared with private label products in 2011, finds a report by Canadean – Cosmetics.

The report titled "Consumer Trends in the Make-up Market in Germany, 2011" finds that eye make-up and lip make-up products had a market share of 90.3%, followed by face make-up with 90.2% share and nail make-up with 83.4%.

Consumers aged more than 55 years formed 32.7% of the market, followed by mid-lifers who comprised 18.4%. Kids and babies contributed the least with only 3.1% to the market.

Female consumers swayed the market with 93.3% share, while urban consumers formed 67.9% as against rural buyers.

Individuals who have done their higher college education contributed 34.4% to the market, followed by those with upper secondary level of education, at 29.9%. Consumers who had done their pre-primary level of education formed only 0.9% of the market.

Affluent consumers had 33.2% share, followed by those under the moderate income group with 27.9%; however, highly affluent individuals had the least share of 10.5%.

Individuals with an average between one and three hours of leisure time per day contributed 28% to the market, followed by those who had on average more than seven hours of leisure time per day with 24.2%. Consumers who did not even have an hour’s leisure time per day had only 5.9% share.

Among the influencing factors, indulgence contributed 28.2% and changing lifestyles contributed 27.7%. Connection was the least influencing trend, standing at 1.8%.

In terms of US dollars, face make-up had 39% share, followed by eye make-up at 31%, lip make-up at 16% and nail make-up at 14%.
