Gelest to introduce new ingredient line for personal care product formulations

Ingredients manufacturer Gelest is introducing DiEthicones, a new line of silicones, which can be used in formulations of sunscreen, foundation, mascara and lip products.

According to the firm, DiMethicone is a silicone oil commonly used in a variety of cosmetic formulations as a surfactant and an active ingredient, mainly in hair care products to make hair shinier and smoother or as a moisturiser in skin care products.

The firm said the new ingredients have greater formulation compatibility, which can become a viable alternative to DiMethicones, with a focus on providing broader organic compatibility and better wetting of inorganic pigments, reported website cosmeticsdesign.com.

The firm claims that the new ingredient line also aims to provide better spreading property, gas permeability, water resistance, lubricity, and ability to reduce tackiness.

Gelest said the ingredient when combined with cosmetic raw materials such as hydrocarbons, esters, waxes and other surfactants particularly targets the increased compatibility and dispersion of coated pigments, changing them to disperse more readily in organic delivery systems and formulation.

With the launch of DiEthicones ingredient, Gelest is aiming to build an increased functionality and flexibility platform for a broad range of formulation experts.
