Affluent consumers form half of Spanish make-up market: Report

Half of the make-up market in Spain is accounted for by the country’s affluent section but the highly affluent group contributes the least, according to a report by Canadean Health & Beauty.

The report, "Consumer Trends in the Make-up Market in Spain", the affluent consumers hold 50% of the market value, while the highly affluent hold just 6.5%.

Older consumers over 55 years accounted for 24.5%, followed by those aged between 35 and 44, with 24%; tweens & early teens aged 10-15 years held the lowest share of 2.3%.

The Spanish make-up market is highly dominated by female consumers who form 88.5%; the urban consumers make over 86% of the market.

Individuals having leisure time of one to three hours a day are the highest users of make-up products at 32%, followed by those having time of three to five hours at 29%; consumers having less than an hour a day form 6.5%.

Among the various educated groups, post secondary – non tertiary consumers hold 40% and the pre-primary individuals only 0.5%.

For over 27% of the consumers surveyed, the new gender behaviours has been the most influencing trend.

Among the various categories, the eye make-up market is penetrated by branded products by 95%, face make-up by 91%, lip make-up by 90% and nail make-up by 87%.

The market share of each category is: face make-up 34%, eye 27%, lip 20% and nail 19%.
