Syneron Candela to launch laser based tatoo removal device in US

US based aesthetic device manufacturer Syneron Medical will launch its PicoWay Picosecond laser for Tattoo removal device in the US.

The device has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US and it will be showcased in San Diego at the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery Meeting to be be held between 6-9 November.

The 1064nm and 532nm wavelength, device generates picosecond (one trillionth of a second duration) pulses to erase tattoos.

All tattoo colours have been cleared for removal by the FDA. The 532nm wavelength will be used to remove orange, yellow and red; whereas the 1064nm wavelength will erase brown, green, blue, black and purple.

PicoWay produces an ultra-short, high-energy picosecond laser, which generates a powerful photo-mechanical impact to disintegrate the ink.

The evaluation for PicoWay was conducted by primary investigators Eric Bernstein, MD, Arielle Kauvar, MD, and Tina Alster, MD.

Main Line Center for Laser Surgery Dr. Eric Bernstein said, "As a dual wavelength Nd:YAG laser, it delivers extremely high peak-power, picosecond pulses enabling the treatment of all skin types."

New York University’s Clinical Professor of Dermatology, Dr. Arielle N.B. Kauvar, commented: "The PicoWay laser allows us to treat a broader range of skin types and a wide array of tattoo ink colours. With the ultra-short picosecond pulse duration, there is minimal discomfort during treatment."
