Momentive to launch conditioning agent for hair restoration

Momentive Performance Materials (Momentive) is to launch its hair conditioning agent Silsoft CLX-E at in-cosmetics in Paris next week.

The new multi-functional additive is said to enable hair care formulators to make products that provide tough conditioning, reduced frizz and protection for hair from heat styling.

Hair gets damaged and hydrophilic when exposed to various aggressors including sunlight, mechanical stress, chemical treatments or heat.

According to Momentive, Silsoft CLX-E conditioning agent is a cross-linkable silicone with an [AB]n structure, which can help restore damaged hair to its original hydrophobic state.

Researchers have also found that when dried, hair treated with products having Silsoft CLX-E conditioning agent acts similarly to undamaged hair, resulting in better manageability.

Silsoft CLX-E conditioning agent when incorporated with products including leave-on and rinse-off conditioners, shampoos, serums, pre-treatments and sprays can provide these advantages.

Momentive senior business director Beatriz Blanco said: "We are continually developing materials that are easy-to-use and allow our customers to differentiate their products.

"Low levels of Silsoft CLX-E conditioning agent can help restore hair to an undamaged state, eliminate frizz and provide thermal protection.

"It is also a durable straightening aid, and can help maintain hair straightening even through ten washes."

The coampny’s personal care product line includes several solutions that could help to provide cosmetics with long-wear and colour boosting properties; creams and lotions with new, enhanced sensories; hair treatments for conditioning, shine, hair restoration or thermal protection; sunscreens; and BB creams.
