MAC to launch Selena Quintanilla make-up collection in October

MAC Cosmetics has announced its plan to launch its new MAC Selena collection, which is inspired by the late American singer Selena Quintanilla.

Curated with Selena’s sister Suzette, the new collection will be launched in October.

The upcoming collection includes MAC Selena Como La Flor lipstick, a deep magenta that takes its name from one of Selena’s main singles. The first look of the product has recently been released.

Following the signing of an online petition by more than 37,000 people urging for a combined collection to honour the late singer, MAC announced its intention to work with Suzette to curate a collection inspired by Selena’s signature style, reports Marie Claire.

MAC said in a statement: "Selena’s vivacious music and style lives on through the passion of her fans and her impact on Latin beauty and culture.

"#MACSelena is a makeup collaboration inspired by the devotion of all those who continue to be touched by the young legend."

Born in 1971, the late singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress and fashion designer was known for her bright and bold lipstick both on and off the stage.

The celebrity was shot in 1995 by fan club president Yolanda Saldívar.

Suzette Quintanilla said: "I wanted the colours to be about her personally, what she wore on and offstage. She has been gone for 21 years already, and for this collaboration to happen, it’s pretty much incredible.

"It just shows the love her fanbase has even though she’s gone; that her music still lives on and her legacy has grown tremendously since she’s passed.

"It’s a great honour to have MAC collaborate with Selena’s name and her fans – for her fans."
