glo introduces polyethylene beads-free products

US-based cosmetic and skincare company glo has found biodegradable alternatives to reformulate its skincare products that had earlier contained polyethylene beads.

Found in most facial cleansers and skincare products, polyethylene beads are gentle on the face but they are harmful to the environment.

They can cause plastic particle pollution and pose an environmental threat to animals in both fresh and ocean water.

According to last year's Microbead-Free Waters Act, all polyethylene beads should be phased out of rinse-off cosmetics by next July.

In compliance with this act, glo has updated four skincare product formulas.

The Daily Polishing Cleanser now has a combination of jojoba beads made from natural wax that dissolve after use without negative impact on the environment, as well as celluloscrub, a modified cellulose from 100% renewable and biodegradable wood pulp.

Refresh Facial Polish now features diatomaceous earth, a naturally occurring fossilised algae with high silica content that provides gentle exfoliation and jojoba beads.

Brightening Polish includes jojoba beads, which provide gentle emollient exfoliation and help deliver active ingredients directly to the skin.

Clear Acne Cleanser now features synthetic wax beads that dissolve after use without negative impact on the environment. It offers gentle physical exfoliation without stress or irritation to the skin.
